Alien Abduction Is a Spirited, Uncommonly Effective Found-Footage Thriller
By Alan Scherstuhl Wednesday, Apr 2 2014

Credit this spirited, uncommonly effective found-footage thriller for breaking the templates promised by its genre and title. Director Matty Beckerman forgoes the usual 90 minutes of portents and shadows, instead revealing the beasties about a half-hour in, and doesn't even bother with the yanked-from-bed-by-flying-saucers routine, perhaps because we're not yet so far gone as a culture that audiences would believe sleepwalkers documenting their adventures via video camera.

ALL THINGS HORROR - Review

ALIEN ABDUCTION seems like a beacon of hope for the faulted genre. It is damn good!

Mixing both off-screen in onscreen aliens, the abductions are initially mysterious and terrifying. As more of these creatures are revealed the terror of their mission builds and you are hanging on every step of Riley’s escape to see the final outcome. The film’s ending, and the beginning and middle for that matter, is smart.
To write-off ALIEN ABDUCTION simply because of its name or the fact that it is a found footage film is an injustice to both the filmmaker and to yourself. You deserve to see this. - See more at: http://www.allthingshorror.com/2014/03/alien-abduction-injecting-interalactic.html#sthash.ndyDgDtT.dpuf READ MORE

BLOODY GOOD HORROR - Review

Films like Alien Abduction make me sit back and consider eating my words.

Before unleashing out of this world horrors, Alien Abduction builds tension with the old fashioned trope of the family getting lost on the way to their second campsite. Dad seems close to having a nervous breakdown and exposes a bit of an anger management problem when he blows his top at Riley for continuing to film. You can hardly blame him as the car is dangerously low on fuel, they are miles away from any sort of civilization in any direction and their electrical equipment seems to be haywire. When the Morrises find what they think is the campsite, all they find are a slew abandoned vehicles and strewn belongings.

From that moment on Alien Abduction does not let up. READ MORE

Alien Abduction is everything Dark Skies and The Fourth Kind wanted to be! This is alien horror and found footage done right, it holds nothing back and it never slows down. The movie is loaded with some chills and thrills and those jumpy moments so many other movies are lacking and the short glimpses the you get of these aliens and what they are capable of will stay with you long after this movie ends! Alien Abduction is Blair Witch meets Fire in the Sky!

Alien Abduction (2014) – IFC Midnight Alien Horror Movie Review

By Geno McGahee

There is a lot of found footage lately and most of it is complete trash. PARANORMAL ACTIVITY is a good example of what’s wrong with the sub-genre of the horror world, and ALIEN ABDUCTION shows how a found footage can be done correctly.

 "ALIEN ABDUCTION TRAILER RELEASED"
March 6, 2014 - This movie will be in the found-footage format, where the illusion is created that what is shown in the film is real video content shot by the on-screen characters, therefore suggesting that the audience is watching authentic footage. Although some who watch this film will likely fall for this gimmick, Alien Abduction is simply an entertaining independent film being released by IFC Midnight. But, the film’s story is reportedly based on true events.

The film’s synopsis simply describes, “A vacationing family encounters an alien threat and is based on the real-life Brown Mountain Lights phenomenon.” The Brown Mountain Lights are, indeed, a very real phenomenon of mysterious lights that have been reported near Brown Mountain in North Carolina for at least a century.
